Funeral services for W.T. Brooks of Bernice, LA will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston, LA with Mr. Ken Treybig officiating.  Interment to follow at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Bernice, LA under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

William Thomas Brooks was born on November 22, 1925 in New Hope, AL and gained his Angel Wings at the age of 93 on May 27, 2019 in Bernice, LA after a long and courageous battle with General Debility and Dementia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings and other relatives.  Left to cherish a wonderful lifetime of memories are his wife of 73 years, Betty Joe Smith Brooks; daughter, Kari Lynn Hinton and husband Delmus; grandson Adam Hinton and partner Dorothy Jones; son Tommy Brooks and fiance' Donna Bonura; granddaughter Rachel Brooks; great-granddaughter Hannah Brooks, and grandson Brandon Brooks.

W.T. or "Dub" as he was affectionately known by those dearest to him, was an incredible friend to everyone he knew.  He would help anyone and often went the extra mile to do something nice for those in need.  He lived to fish, hunt, cook, pour concrete, garden, work in his wood work shop and go to the coffee shop gathering every morning to start his day with friends.  He was known far and wide as "The Fisherman", a name given to him by "the girls" at Bernice Pharmacy whom he loved dearly.  He loved being on the water fishing, often alone and reaping many benefits of his long hours in a boat.  He enjoyed his time in the solitude of his "Deer Stand" while waiting for one to walk by.  He was a "Pit Master" extrodinere and shared his talents with many.  He could Bar-B-Que with the best of the pit masters, and come out the winner every time.  His forte' was concrete.  He was a "Commander of Concrete" having worked in the industry building roads, bridges and other concrete structures for 35 years for J.B. Allen Construction Company all over the states of Louisiana and Arkansas.  He had a "green thumb" and was his happiest behind a tiller sweating like crazy in the hot summer sun in his garden.  He was quick to share his bounty with loved ones and friends.  He was so very talented in construction and in wood working.  Over the years since his retirement, he built many beautiful pieces of furniture and became proficient at building cutting boards from exotic woods.  Many family and friends were gifted with cutting boards from time to time.  He was a faithful patrol at the coffee shop wherever it may be over the years, from Hwy 2 Grocery to Exxon south of town in Bernice.  At the end of the day he loved to settle down in his recliner to watch TV and enjoy the many delicacies cooked by his wife, reflect on the fabulous day he had and plan more busy events for the upcoming days ahead.

W.T. was a faithful servant to his church, Church of God-A World Wide Association, Inc. Sabbath Keepers of Ruston, LA where he was in charge of set-up of the sound system and where he also assisted in many other duties and anything he could to do be of help in any way.  He built the lecturn that is currently being used during services.

Pallbearers will be Henry Johnson, Donovan Bailey, Perry Myers, Tim Coggins, Tommy Davis, Glen Hutto, Chris Teague and Steve Barnette.  Serving as honorary pallbearer is longtime friend, Johnny Callender.
