Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. Tommy Ray Speights, age 73 of Ruston, will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 15, 2020 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Rev. Johnathon Lewis and Rev.Thomas Ussery will be officiating with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Tommy was born on Nov. 10, 1946 in Logansport, LA to Milton Speights and Ruby Hendricks Speights and died May 11, 2020 in Ruston, LA.

Tommy served in the Army during the Vietnam War and also served in the U.S. Airforce Reserves in the 307th Red Horse Unit. He served as an ordained minister for over twenty-five years with the United Pentecostal Church and enjoyed making and selling peanut brittle and was known around town as "the peanut brittle man". Tommy loved to fish and play dominos.  He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Speights White.

Tommy is survived by his wife of nearly fifty years, Barbara Caraway Speights; his daughter, Sharon and husband Jamey Baker of Gary, TX; grandchildren: Brittany White and fiancé Kason Kelly of Ruston, LA.; Lexi and husband Garrett Burch, of Choudrant, LA, Jordan Baker and Dustin Baker, both of Gary, TX; brother George Speights of Castro Valley, CA; sisters: Linda and husband Judge Cordray of Logansport, LA and Janice Anderson of Waskom, TX and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
