Scott Clay Chaney of New Orleans, LA passed away on August 15, 2022. He was 81 years old. Scott was predeceased by his parents, William and Ethel Chaney, sister, Norma Shear and former wife Barbara (Keyte) Chaney. He is survived by his son, Bill Chaney, and his grandchildren, Robert, Nathanael, Benjamin, John, Joseph and Madeline Chaney. Scott is also survived by his sisters, Karen Fletcher (Bob), Ruth Chaney Walker, along with nieces and nephews, Emma Davis (Dan), Andrew Kauffman (Wendy), Gerald Shear (Jenny), Kim Burch Brown, Jeff Burch and several cousins, great nieces and nephews.

Scott grew up in Joliet, Illinois. He studied violin, viola, and voice at Drake University and earned a BA in Music Education from Drake's College of Music. While at Drake, he met and married Barbara Keyte, who was a gifted cellist in the Drake University Orchestra.

Scott was a full-time classical musician his entire life. He played viola for the New Orleans Symphony from 1968 to 1991. Scott then joined the Mantovani Orchestra, performing in North America, Europe, and Asia for the next 11 years. He then returned to his beloved New Orleans, taught private lessons, and played musicians' union gigs in the Gulf South until his retirement.

Despite declining health in his later years, Scott never lost his passion for music and love for his family. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, his family asks that you honor Scott's memory by forgiving someone.
