On Friday, July 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM, our family will celebrate the life of Russell Scott Boyd at Alabama Presbyterian Church in Choudrant, LA. Reverend Allison Moody will lead the service with the burial under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home at the Sibley Cemetery.

Russell Scott Boyd was born into a Marine Corps family in Corona, CA on October 8, 1955. Growing up Russell got to experience many parts of the country as they were stationed all over the United States. He developed a deep love of his country, family and travel. As a young man, he joined the United States Coast Guard and served for four years. While stationed in Hawaii, he rescued a beautiful young woman named Anne Sanguinet who had gotten caught in a riptide. When he was transferred to Boston, MA, Anne moved with him and they were married. After his service was over, he and Anne moved to Louisiana where they had two sons. Though they later divorced, Russell never remarried and only truly loved Anne for the rest of his life. During his lifetime, he worked hard at a variety of jobs. Russell worked trainwrecks for HL&L, he was a mechanic at T.L. James, a lab technician at Williamette and a lab supervisor at Green Tech.  Many people feel like they know all about Russell and the man he was. The people who really knew and loved him, the ones that mattered most to Russell, knew and still know that he was an intelligent, complex, perfectly imperfect man. He enjoyed all types of music and loved to dance. Throughout his life he painted, created pieces of pottery, did beautiful woodwork and other artistic works. He loved fishing and scuba diving…anything to do with the water. Like all Boyd men, he was funny and loved to make other people laugh. Russell could always be counted on to help place and pick up the American flags around town on patriotic holidays. He was fiercely loyal and loved BIG. He was generous to a fault. If he saw or knew of someone in need, Russell did not talk about what he could do, he took action. He gave what he personally had or held fundraisers to get whatever was needed. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his father Herman Boyd, Sr., his mother Vada Lee Decker Boyd and his brother H. P. Boyd, Jr. He is survived by his sons Clay Boyd and wife Frances of Downsville, LA and their children, Caleb Boyd, Phoenix Sullivan, and Lilly Boyd; his son Cody Boyd of Texarkana, TX; his sister Sherri Kessler and husband Jim of Choudrant, LA; his sister Kristina Kassab and husband Greg of Choudrant, LA; many much loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Clay Boyd, Cody Boyd, Caleb Boyd, Phoenix Sullivan, David Young, Jonathan Young and Judd Dutton. Honorary pall bearers are Jim Kessler, Carl Sproule, Ron Christiansen, Greg Kassab and Jim Strain.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
