Robert James (Bert) Richard, Sr. was born on May 6, 1931 in Church Point, LA, and was the youngest of ten children. He joined the Lord on August 8, 2022.
Bert joined the United States Air Force and served in both Vietnam and the Korean War; he was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1974.
After retirement he became a bus driver for Lincoln Parish Schools and owned and operated the Kiddie Kastle Day Care.
Bert lived in Ruston, LA from 1972-2016 until he moved with his wife Alona to Lake Claiborne in 2016.
He belonged to the American Legion, Moose Lodge, SMART Cajuns Group, Lions Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was blessed with 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Alona Richard, daughter, Renee Buckman (Charlie Buckman), and son, Robert James (Butch) Richard Jr. (Sally Richard), grandchildren Candace Cranston (Bo Cranston), Jonathan Breaux (Nicki Breaux), Robert (Trey) Richard III (Crystal Richard), Bret Buckman (Erin Buckman), Kelly Cowan (Jason Cowan), Eli Breaux (Stacy Breaux), Cheree Devillier (Wade Devillier), and Dylan Breaux.
He is preceded in death by his parents Emar Richard, and Marie Amynthe Richard as well as by his daughter Revette Breaux.
He was a gregarious, fun-loving son, husband, father and grandfather who loved gardening, traveling in his RV, boating, outdoors and cooking. He was full of personality enjoyed being surrounded by his friends and family and everyone's favorite Cajun!
Visitation will be August 10, 2022 from 4-6pm at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston, LA.
The funeral will be held in Church Point, LA at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery Annex where he will be laid to rest with his mother.
