Obituary

Nell Colvin Roach, 103, of Ruston, formerly of Hico, died April 13.  Born December 21, 1916, to Thomas Clay and Eva White Colvin, she grew up in the Mineral Springs community, graduated from Ruston High School, and attended Louisiana Tech.  Among her jobs was selling tickets at the Dixie Theater in Ruston, and during World War II, she worked  at the Rationing Office, where she met her husband-to-be, Max Roach,  when he was returning from his stint in the army.   She was baptized at the age of 12 and was a member of the Ruston Church of Christ.

An excellent homemaker, seamstress and tailor, she sewed clothing professionally and for her family. She quilted and pieced beautiful quilts for her family and designed and sewed doll clothes for her daughters and granddaughters.  She loved to raise vegetables and strawberries in her huge garden, and cooked them to perfection, along with scrumptious cakes, cookies, and pies.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her siblings Rodney Colvin, Inez Sharp, Lucille Berryman, Sallie Aulds, and Abbie Colvin.  Survivors are her daughters Susan Roach and fiancé Peter Jones, of Ruston; and Kathy Linder and husband Ray Linder of Monticello, Arkansas; two granddaughters Maury Draper and husband Clay and Kara Johnson and husband Brandon; and great grandchildren: Noah Draper, Leah Draper, Rachel Draper, Zachariah Draper, Christian Draper, Thomas Draper, Payton Draper, and Ella Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to the exceptional staff at Princeton Place, of Ruston, especially the nurses Tiima, Toni, and Victoria and to the nurses and staff of Compassus Hospice, especially Stephanie Howard, Mary Thompson, Cherry Timber, and Barbara Armstrong.
