Funeral services for Mona Jowers Cayer, age 85 of Ruston, LA, will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Owens Memorial Chapel with Rev. Randy Ray officiating.  Burial will follow in the Roselawn Cemetery in Calhoun, LA under direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.  Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until service time Saturday at Owens Memorial Chapel.

For her grandchildren, Mona Faye Jowers-Cayer (born March 24, 1937; died April 26, 2022), marked the morning with distant aromas of fresh, Crisco-cut biscuits and her honey-sweet voice at the door, softly crooning Oscar Hammerstein, "Oh what a beautiful morning! Oh what a beautiful day!" As she opened the door and turned the lights on, she brought the world to her grandchildren. A world she carefully crafted for her family to inherit. Her story began in the spring of 1937.

On March 24 ^th , Alice Iru Warren and her husband Forrest "Shorty" Warren (Alice's husband of nearly five decades) gave birth to Mona in West Monroe, LA. As a teenager, Mona attended Ouachita High School until the age of 16, when she tamed herself a cowboy, and married her beloved first husband Richard "Jigger" Wayne Jowers.

Because of Jigger's work at Ford, Bacon, & Davis, Mona traveled across the United States, where she cultivated life-long relationships, an international fan base, and a reputation as America's greatest party host. She earned this reputation, not merely by throwing parties, but by expressing the love she felt for each of her friends in every minute detail of the experiences she created for them.

Mona's ability to share her love naturally extended into motherhood when she gave birth to her first daughter Donna, and continued with her daughters Kim and Cindy. As she raised her daughters and they grew into adulthood, each reflected Mona's legacy: In Donna, integrity; In Kim, an infectiously fun authenticity; and in Cindy, the kind of care that only a daughter of Mona could possess. Each of her daughters married, had children, and passed on Mona's spirit to her grandchildren.

In furtherance of Mona's legacy, we ask that you share some part of yourself with someone else, as she shared so much with us, instead of sending flowers. Whether you are able to donate to a charity, or tell someone you love them, we would appreciate your doing so in her memory.

After one last morning together at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Mona's grandchildren will carry her to Roselawn Memorial Garden to be interred. She brought the world to us each morning, we think it's only fair we carry her to her final rest. Sleep well, Miss Mona. The legacy of your spirit will live through us.

Survived by:  her 3 daughters: Donna, Kim, and Cindy; her 3 sons-in-law: Paul, Mike, and Vince; 9 grandchildren: Alex, Laura, Zachary, Joel, Ciaran, Aidan, Charles, Colten, and Courtney; and her 10 great-grandchildren Lila Goodling, Evie Goodling, Kate Kyzar, Lan Kyzar, Emmie Sheehan, Fuller Sheehan, Otto Sheehan, Tenneson Byers, and Beckett Belue.

Preceded by:  her first husband, Richard "Jigger" Wayne Jowers and her second husband, James Cayer; her siblings: Marie Hymer, Johnnie George, Betty Hendry, Joe Warren, and Eddie Warren; as well as her parents, Alice Iru Warren and Forrest "Shorty" Warren.
