Meri Catherine Attaway, age 85 of Shreveport, Louisiana was born at Confederate Memorial Hospital in Shreveport, LA on January 16, 1939 to Earnest Mercer Crye and Mildred McClellan Crye Woods. She passed away on February 20, 2024 after a lengthy and hard-fought battle with breast cancer.

Meri Catherine graduated from Longstreet High School in 1956 and married Newman S. Attaway, Jr. from Longstreet, Louisiana.  She is survived by: Patricia (Don) Baker from Greenwood, LA; Lisa (Henry) Pool from Chatham, LA; Dennis (Renee Landry) Attaway from Bienville, LA; Michael Attaway (Gustavo Lopez de Paz) from Arlington, TX; and Cynthia Hyatt from Arlington, TX. Also, she leaves behind two grandchildren: Haley Posey of Simsboro, LA and Joshua Baker of Las Vegas, Nevada. Siblings: Patsy Johnson from Shreveport, LA; B.J. Woods from Commerce, TX; Elizabeth Turner from Cincinnati, OH; Gerald Woods from Kaufman, TX; James Ivy Woods from Vivian, LA; and Larry Woods from Baton Rouge, LA.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Earnest and Mildred Crye; brother, J.S. Coussons; husband, Newman Attaway, Jr.; and grandson, Sam Hyatt.

The family would like to thank Dr. Prakash Peddy, Dr. Paul Guidry, the 4 West staff at Willis Knighton Medical Center, The Oaks of Louisiana, and Willis Knighton Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.

The immediate family will have a private ceremony to celebrate her life.
