Funeral services for Maxine Carter, age 91 of Farmerville will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Wilkins officiating. Internment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.

Doris Maxine Emmons Carter passed away on November 21, 2020 at her daughter's home in Long Beach, MS with her adoring family gathered around her. She was born to Isaac Bradford and Lois Webster Emmons on December 14, 1929.

Maxine was born in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana and was a resident of Farmerville, Louisiana.  She was a member of Christ the Redeemer Church in West Monroe, LA and enjoyed attendance at First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport, MS while on the Coast. She was a faithful servant of God.  Maxine read her Bible every single day and frequently went to scripture for answers and guidance.  She kept a prayer list that was many pages long and she genuinely and fervently prayed over it daily.  Maxine mentored many Christian sisters and was considered their 'other mother'. She trusted in her Lord and Savior whole heartedly and she was her family's biggest prayer warrior. It was often said that she had a 'direct line' to heaven.

Maxine was a remarkably interesting and knowledgeable woman.  She was a great student and was a Spanish major at Louisiana Tech University. Maxine worked as an administrator in the Insurance and Banking fields and then became a dutiful and committed housewife.  Her hobbies and interests spanned from wood-working, cake decorating, hunting & fishing, painting, playing the piano, gardening and bird identification.  Her passion was in cooking amazing meals for her family and friends.  She showed her love by preparing the most delicious, well thought out, visually appealing and appropriate meals.

Maxine is survived by daughter: Laura Burton of Long Beach, MS; granddaughter: Holly Swan and husband Johnny Favre of Long Beach, MS; grandson: Jared Douglas Swan of Atlanta, GA; four great grandchildren: Laura Favre and husband Jeremy Carpenter of Long Beach, MS, Sammy Favre of Long Beach, MS, Zachary Douglas Swan of Atlanta, GA and Ethan Wayne Swan of Atlanta, GA. As well as many beloved nieces, nephews and family members.

She was preceded in death by parents: Isaac Bradford and wife Lois; her devoted husband of 62 years: Hewitt Douglas Carter; and brother: IB Emmons of Ruston, LA.

The family of Mrs. Carter wishes to thank everyone for their kind expressions of sympathy. All acts of kindness and prayers during her long illness are sincerely appreciated. She enjoyed all the cards and letters she received and was grateful for the continued prayers of her two churches, family and friends.
