Graveside services for Lurline Lowe Riser Farmer, age 90 of Ruston, LA will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Riser Cemetery in Ruston, LA with Rev. Brian Mercer and Rev. Chris Winterman officiating.  Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.

Lurline was born to parents, Vennie Mangham Lowe and Otis Lowe in Quitman, LA on December 12, 1931 and she passed away peacefully on April 10, 2022 after a long bout with Alzheimer's disease. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  Lurline and Earl started their life together immediately after World War II. She was working as a waitress at the old Hood's and met Earl when he came to eat.  She excitedly exclaimed to her mother that "she had met a boy who wanted to take her out".  It would be easy to see how taken he must have been by her with her mounds of curly red hair and fiery spirit.  The happiest times of her life were spent on Riser Road where she and Earl made their first permanent home. Lurline followed her heart to serve and trained as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1963. She was trained by the nuns at Saint Francis and could always be found wearing a crisp white suit. The majority of her career was spent as Dr. Dale Boersma's office nurse and went on to serve as Dr. Billy Smith's office nurse for many years at Green Clinic. The loving care that she provided for her family was extended to many patients throughout the years.  Lurline had a lifelong love of gardening, whether it was flowers or vegetables.  She certainly had a green thumb.  Spring time would find her planting new varieties of flowers that called to her and tending her beautiful yard.  She loved to cook for her family and was a talented cook.  She definitely knew everyone's favorite treat and made sure to deliver it on their birthday, or when there was a special occasion.  Many would ask for her secret to her tea cakes, but there was no recipe.  It was her special "way", and this is just one recipe that her daughters have yet to master. Not to forget, Lurline was also a talented seamstress.  She found joy in sewing for others, whether it be clothes for her grandchildren or a pair of drapes.  Lurline was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a member of The Eastern Star.  Lurline was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Riser; her second husband, Frederick Farmer of Ruston and her four brothers: Owen Lowe, Waylon Lowe, Wayne Lowe, and James Lowe.

Lurline is survived by her two daughters:  Bonnie Sherrard and Dwanna Schmidt, both of Ruston; her two brothers: Royce Lowe, of Star City, Arkansas and Troy Lowe and wife, Patsy Lowe of Ruston; her three grandchildren: Casey Sherrard and wife, Heather, Jenny Sherrard, and Caitlin Schmidt, all of Ruston. She was beloved by her great-grandchildren: Cassie Bearden, Dylan Bearden, and Isabel Sherrard, all of whom she took great pleasure in thoroughly spoiling.  She would certainly be upset not to mention a very special surviving niece, Kay Riser Prince.

The family would like to take an opportunity to thank Princeton Place for the skilled and loving care that they have provided over the years. It certainly has not gone unnoticed. A special nod of gratitude to nurse Toni at Princeton Place for her unwavering care and Compassus Hospice for their guidance and empathy. Lurline will be missed greatly, but, carried on in spirit through her beloved family. This is certainly not an ode to goodbye, but "see you later".
