Obituary

Lissa Linda Kiper, age 88 of Ruston, was born November 11, 1937 in Winnsboro, LA to Mary Elizabeth Eckhardt Kiper and James Nicholas Kiper and passed away Friday, April 10, 2026 in Ruston, LA. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date, as Lissa had donated her body to science at LSUHS Anatomy.

Lissa grew up in Winnsboro and graduated from Winnsboro High School on May 25, 1955 as Solitarian. She went on to further her education at Louisiana Tech University where she graduated with a B.S. in Home Economic Education and Early Childhood Education, and with a B.A. in Elementary Education. While in school, Lissa was active in many things. She studied piano from 3rd grade through 12th grade, participated in many stage plays and productions, studied Spanish, was on the Winnsboro High School Pep Squad, and was a member of the Glee Club, Home Economics Club, and the Yearbook Staff. Lissa taught elementary school for 33 years in Louisiana, with 30 years being in public schools and the remaining 3 years at St. Joseph Catholic School in Shreveport.

Lissa was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bo Kiper; son, Stevon Owens; father of her children, A.G. Owens, Jr.; son-in-law, Eddie Jarmon; brother-in-law, Bill Ware and brother-in-law, Dr. Wayne Owens. She is survived by her children, Loren Owens Jarmon, Blain Owens and wife Sherry, Lorissa Owens, and Delaine Owens; grandchildren: Nick Jarmon (Sarabeth), Ashley Owens, Callen Owens and wife Jamie, Brendan Owens, Miranda Owens Fredericks, Kendal Owens, Ceira Weir Chandler and husband Scott, Breana Weir, Peyton Huff, and Alec Anderson and wife Madi; great-grandchildren: Jay Jarmon, Daisy Jarmon, Iris Jarmon, Levi Owens, Harper Owens, Alaina Fredericks, Logan Fredericks, Sydney Owens, Addison Owens, Blake Owens, Scott Chandler, Braelynn Chandler, Wesley Chandler, Landry Anderson, Rowen Anderson, and Cooper Anderson; sister, Pamela Kiper Ware; nephew, Scott Ware; niece, Kelli Ware McClendon and husband Mark; and a host of other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please make donation to St. Jude Children's Hospital, First Presbyterian Church of Winnsboro, or St. Joseph Catholic School of Shreveport in memory of Lissa Kiper Owens Thompson.
