Funeral services for Mr. Lewis Lanier Beavers, age 64, of Simsboro, LA will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA with Bro. Jim Davis officiating. He will be interred at the Ham Family Cemetery in Malone, Florida.
Lewis Lanier Beavers, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and loyal friend passed away after a brief illness on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Northeast Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston, Louisiana. Born November 23, 1956, in Homer, Louisiana, Lewis grew up in Homer, Ruston, and Choudrant. He graduated Choudrant High School in 1974. Lewis continued his education at Louisiana Tech University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 1979.
Lewis enlisted in the Army National Guard in November, 1973 and went to boot camp in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1974. Lewis received the Governor's Award in 1978 for his assistance in the cleanup of the tornado damage in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was honorably discharged in November, 1979 with the rank of Sgt E-5.
After college, Lewis moved to Dothan, Alabama to intern at Simmons Dairy Farm where he met the love of his life and best friend, Elaine Ham. They began dating in December 1979 and were married the following year on September 15. After marrying, they returned to Louisiana where they eventually settled in Simsboro with their children, Eric and Brandy. Lewis began work in lending in 1983. He handled loans for Farmers' Home Administration, Community Trust Bank, and Marion State Bank.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Shirley Beavers of Simsboro; father-in-law's Troy Ham Sr. of Bascom, Florida and Robert Baxter of Chipley, Florida; brother-in-law's Dennis Colvin of Dubach and Wayne Ham of Alabama; and nephew, Wes Colvin of Simsboro.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Beavers of Simsboro; his sister, Donna Colvin, of Ruston; mother-in-law, Sarah Baxter; son and wife, Eric and Kelly Beavers of Shreveport; daughter and wife Brandy and Joell Walke of Middletown, Ohio; nephew and wife, Mac and Amanda Colvin of Metairie; niece Emalee Colvin of Simsboro; and a multitude of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
The leader of songs will be Eddie Albritton. Honorary pallbearers are Lamar Ham, Johnny Derrick, Danny Creel, Mac Colvin, Ben Robinson, Jay Snell, Mike McGee, and Stan Elkins.
Visitation for Lewis will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, September 27, 2021 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to New Orleans Lympho-Maniacs Fund, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, or the American Diabetes Association.
