Obituary

Kenneth Phillips, son of Willard Ray and Louise Phillips, was born on July 6, 1956 in Magnolia, AR and passed away April 12, 2022 in Arcadia, LA.  As we all know, Kenny Phillips was a warrior of a man, and he was very clear and driven for the things that he wanted.  Therefore, we will honor his wishes by giving him rest with cremation.  He was also very specific about not wanting people "standing around" for a formal service.  Please honor him as you see fit. Kenny's ashes will rest with his family at Old Serepta Baptist Church cemetery near Springhill, Louisiana, for those that choose to visit and pay tribute to him.

Kenny joins his parents, W.R. "Buddy" Phillips and Louise Turk Phillips, as well as his older brother, Tommy Phillips, and his beloved terrier "Roo". Kenny had a strong connection with his beautiful love, Heather Van Der Breggen, who was with him right up until he took his last breath.  He was so proud of her, as well as the person he was when he was with her.  Their connection was unlike any other, and he was truly blessed by her incredible love, loyalty, and respect.  His blood lives on in his daughter, Ginny Canterbury (Brian), granddaughter, Ginger Johnson and grandson, Brice Canterbury.  Many are left to keep his memory alive including his brother, Steven Phillips and his children: Nick Vines, Tommy Phillips, and Abbie Phillips, as well as his son by choice, Josh Nations, and his children; Leo Nations and LuLu Nations.

We are united in honor of a man that lived life on his terms, doing what he loved.   Kenny did everything to the max and did it his way, fiercely. A lifelong career in the oilfield provided him with the ability to be generous to friends and strangers alike, whether it was to enable others to enter that career, or to lend or give funds to help them.  He was grateful to be able to do those things, as well as live just a little like a rockstar!

Kenny's love for animals never waivered, whether it be dogs, chickens, snakes, goats or horses. He mourned the ones he lost deeply and pondered the joy they brought to him often, right to the end of his life. A big, strong giant of a man could be found gently helping a chick pip its way out of its shell, then carry it in his t-shirt pocket to keep it warm.

Kenny was creative and supported the arts. He loved music and he would belt out a song and do a little dance with childlike abandon.  He was so proud of his granddaughter, Ginger's dance career. He was either creating things himself, making bows and arrows, writing stories, or collaborating with artists and builders of custom guns, cars, and bikes.

Kenny loved being in nature whether it was hunting on the prairies and mountains, or fishing rivers and lakes. Many joined him and learned from his lifelong experiences.  Traveling throughout the US and Canada, he stopped on a whim to enjoy whatever struck him. The open road always pulled Kenny, whether it was a highway, a dirt trail or a racetrack, he was all in and he had a love for high performance and custom vehicles. None compared to his bikes, though. Riding with the wind in his hair was the best by far. His favorite song at the end had a line that elevated his soul, "I'm gonna ride 'til I can't no more".  He did. Imagine him now sunglasses on, hair streaming behind him, a big grin on his face.
