Kathleen attended Ruston High School, getting her GED and attended Louisiana Tech for one year. She worked at the glass plant, Bernice Garment Plant, Ruston State School, as a nursing home aid and retired as a convenience store manager. Kathleen was such a strong independent woman. There wasn't anything that she wouldn't tackle on her own. She raised four children on her own at time when being divorced and female was very rare.
Never to remarry, she worked tirelessly to provide for her kids in a time raising kids wasn't easy. But she did it with integrity and grit. She worked hard to make sure her children were raised right and she loved her kids and grandchildren with her all of her heart and soul. She didn't have much, but would give you the shirt off her back. She taught each of the children how to cook and clean, so they could stand on their own when they were grown.
She bought her first house when she had four kids at home. It was a small house, but it was hers. Kathleen made up her mind up to add on to the house and doubled the size of the house. She and her four kids built the house board-by-board, one weekend at a time. She later built another house by herself in the Mineral Spring community.
She had a strong will that when she put her mind to something you were not changing it. Her children were all she had and she dedicated her whole life to them. All she wanted was to talk and visit with her family. She made sure to teach her children about life and living and what it would take to survive in this world, morals, good character and dedication.
