Judy Sumlin O'Rear, 79, of Simsboro, Louisiana, passed away on August 8, 2024. She was born on July 1, 1945, in Ruston. Judy was the youngest child of five children born to Roy and Ruby Sumlin. She is survived by her children: Son, Tony Durrett (Colleen) of Simsboro; Daughter, Katrina Ryman (Tim) of Anchorage Alaska; and Son Mathew O'Rear of Tyler Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Gunner Durrett (Meredith), Meagan Habala (Michael), Katelyn Tierney, Taylor Durrett; and one great-granddaughter, Mia Durrett. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was a dedicated mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings.

After graduating from Simsboro High School and Louisiana Tech University, Judy became a Special Education Teacher. A job that took her close to home and as far away as Alaska. She is remembered by her students and peers for her kind and compassionate instruction, and as a strong advocate for children's emotional and mental well-being. Judy loved many things, but if you were to see her out and about on any given day, she would likely have a Coke in her hand and you would hear about one of her beloved dogs. Her adventurous spirit carried her from Minden Louisiana to Yakutat Alaska, Glennallen, to above the arctic circle in Selawik, Alaska. She eventually moved back South so she could live near family again.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
