Graveside services for Joseph Brown Jr., age 88 of Bolton, Mississippi will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Bolton, Mississippi. The first visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston, Louisiana. The second visitation for Joseph will be held from 3:00- 6:00 P.M., Friday, September 18, 2020 at Lakeover Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson, Mississippi.
Joseph Brown, Jr. was born to the late, Joseph Brown Sr. and Lillie Davis Brown on March 28, 1932 and passed away on September 13, 2020 in Minden, Louisiana. He was born and raised in Bolton, Mississippi and grew up in the Mt. Olive community. He became a believer/follower of Christ at a young age and joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Joseph served faithfully at Mt. Olive Baptist Church as a deacon, chairman of the deacon board and Sunday school teacher. He was also the Sunday school Superintendent until his health prevented him from fulfilling those duties. Joseph taught public school in Hernando, Bolton and Raymond, Mississippi. He taught math, industrial arts as well as coaching. Joseph later became the principal at public schools in Clinton and Bolton, Mississippi. He became acquainted with his future wife, Betty Ruth Cornelius Brown while teaching in Bolton, Mississippi, they were married for 26 years.
Joseph is preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Lillie Brown; wife, Betty Ruth and son, Bobby Brown.
Joseph is survived by sons, Carlos W. Bell and wife Amy of Mesquite, Texas and Joseph Isom Brown and his wife Shannon of Simsboro, Louisiana; brothers, Leonard Brown and wife Rutha of Bolton, MS and Beonard Brown of Bolton, Mississippi; grandchildren, Bobby Jones and Ciarra Jones of Jackson, Mississippi, McKenna Ruth Brown and Mitchell Joseph Brown of Simsboro, Louisiana and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
