John
Robeaux
Jan 8, 1962 — Sep 4, 2020
Downsvillle
John Alvin Robeaux was welcomed by his Heavenly Father on Friday, September 4, 2020.
John was born on January 8, 1962 in Monroe, LA during a record snowstorm and he departed this life after a record hurricane; the beginning and ending of a stormy life. He accepted Jesus into his heart as a young man and was baptized at Mount Arrant in Downsville, Louisiana. John was the jack of all trades. He loved to try new things and never liked to do the same thing for too long; but anything he did, he did well. He worked as a salesman for Tom's, owned a wrecker service, and was trained as a cabinet maker at a young age when he worked with his Dad. He drove log trucks, did mechanical work, and worked for a while as a mental health technician. He was certified as an OSHA inspector and earned a degree in Industrial Instrumentation in 2008. John could pretty much do anything: plumbing, flooring, tiling, locksmithing, siding, cooking, gardening, roofing, hunting, and fishing to name a few.
We all have fond memories of John inviting all the kids to the lake for fun! He would teach them how to wake board, innertube, or catch a 50-pound catfish - hogging. He would try anything once not considering the consequences, even jumping out of airplanes! He was an avid disc golfer and played every day. He even made his own golf course at home. He won several trophies, including 1 st place in the 2014 Southern Nationals Pro/Am Tournament Series. He taught himself to unicycle at age 50 and ended up with a 7-foot Giraffe Unicycle he could ride very well. He learned to juggle and joked about joining the circus; always loving the attention. He may have been 58, but he had the heart of a kid and loved to have a good time! He was always putting together something fun for the kids: zipline, swimming pool, basketball goal, monkey bars, volley ball net, or anything else to entertain. He made sure that everyone always had fun. Every summer all the kids were taken on an annual vacation to Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor.
John was the life of the party and always had a way of making things fun. I'm sure many remember him from Mardi Gras as he never missed a parade. In fact, you could often see him selling his halos until he had his one big drink and then he would start giving them away! In fact, he probably gave away more than he sold.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Robeaux, step-father, Garland Decell, son-in-law, Lane McGaha, his aunt and uncle Jeffie and Tony Battaglia and his best friend, Mario Wright.
John is survived by his wife, LaDonna; three daughters, Andrea McGaha, Suzannah Cook and husband Clancey and Stacie Robeaux as well as seven grandchildren Layla, Macy and Bryce McGaha, Dash, Comet and Atlas Cook and Braxton Garrison. He is also survived by his mother, Dorene Decell of Ruston; sister, Judy Bowyer and husband Steve of Virginia Beach, Virginia; step-sister Dottie Brown of Spartansburg, SC, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gene and Carolyn Brazzel; sister-in-law, Lisa Brazzel; brother-in-law, Eric Brazzel and wife Lynne; brother-in-law, Keith Brazzel and wife Teresa; all from Ruston as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and beloved dogs – Jake, Fatso, Putter & Bit.
The family would like to thank all of you for all the prayers, texts, calls, cards, food, etc. We really would like any cherished memories from you and invite you to share them with us. John asked for everyone to celebrate his life and not be sad, so go have a party playing disc golf and make a toast to John's memory. Please send pictures.
