Obituary

Funeral services for John "Bo" Goodwin, age 63 of Haynesville, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the United Pentecostal Church in Haynesville with Brother Gary Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Simsboro City Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, Louisiana.
John "Bo" Goodwin was born January 26, 1959, in Monroe, Louisiana to L W "Dub" and Juanita Goodwin and walked into the loving arms of our Lord and savior on February 15, 2022. Bo grew up in Farmerville, Louisiana and graduated from Farmerville High School in 1977. After graduating high school, he attended and graduated Vo-tech and pursued a career in welding until 1985, where he then found his true career calling working for the department of corrections. Bo worked at David Wade Correctional Center in Homer, Louisiana for 15 years before moving on to the Claiborne Parish Detention Center in May of 2001 as a Major until 2004, in which time, he devoted himself and served as Assistant Warden until he retired in 2018. To know Bo was one of life's greatest gifts and an absolute privilege. He was an amazing Daddy, Papaw, and brother. He loved his family with his whole heart. He also loved the Lord and attended the United Pentecostal Church in Haynesville, Louisiana, where you could find him many a night, praying and praising the Lord. When not at church praying, you would find Bo doing one of two things: either hanging out with his lifelong best friend and brother Glenn or sitting in his big recliner watching old westerns with his fur baby Bailey while talking on the phone. Lord knows he liked to talk on the phone and had the gift of gab. Overall, Bo was one of the most loving, kind-hearted, and selfless men to have ever lived and will be truly and deeply missed!
Bo is preceded in death by his parents, L W "Dub" Goodwin and Juanita Maxine Shumaker Goodwin; son, John "Little John" Goodwin; daughter, Shayleen "Shay" Goodwin; and brother-in-law, Mac Nolan.
Those left to cherish their memories with Bo are his daughter, Alice Kay Goodwin Deese and husband James B. Deese of West Monroe, Louisiana; 7 grandchildren, Destiny Kay, Aaliyah Jannise Goodwin, Johnathan "JJ"  Goodwin, Michael Deese, his bestest friend, "Little Bit"  Tanya Deese all of West Monroe, Louisiana, James W. Deese and family of Simsboro, Louisiana, and Eddie D. Deese and family of Hodge, Louisiana; brothers Glenn Goodwin of Farmerville, Louisiana and Jerry Goodwin and wife Kayla of Homer, Louisiana; sister, Georgia Nolan of Bernice, Louisiana; special niece, Lynell Taylor and husband Steve of Homer, Louisiana; his fur baby, Bailey; other nieces and nephews as well as everyone else that had the pleasure of knowing him.
Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn Goodwin, Brian Tucker, Ron "Shorty" Rawson, Steve Taylor, and Stacy Brimer. Honorary pallbearers are Buck Deese and JJ Goodwin.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time Tuesday at the church.
