A memorial service for John Robert Collins, age 79, of Ruston, LA will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 5, 2021 at Rock Corner Baptist Church in Dubach, LA with Rev. Larry Bullock, Rev. Dana Thrash and Rev. Brad Jones officiating.  Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.

John was born June 21, 1941 to Robert W. and Lucille Boddie Collins.  He was a graduate of Byrd High School in 1959.  Afterward, he attended LA Tech University.  He then served in the US Army for 3 years beginning 6/6/1960.  He was stationed in Korea for 18 months.  Although having polio as a child, he chose to serve country in spite of impairment.

After returning from Korea, he married Mary Glenda Dumas on June 6, 1964.  After her passing in 2003, he married Judith Moore Graham in 2004.

John was owner of J&B Pest Control in Shreveport until retirement.  He then raised cattle with his son on the family farm near Ruston.  John was a 17-year member of the N. Shreveport Lion's Club and charter member of South Shreveport Lion's Club.  In those 17 years he never missed a meeting.  He is a lifetime member of VFW and of the American Legion.  John was also a member of Louisiana Cattleman's Association and served as treasurer for the Lincoln Parish chapter for several years.

John loved hunting, including squirrel dog hunting.  He loved his dogs, Lucy & Maggie.  He loved working on the family farm that has been in the family for over 100 Years.  He enjoyed southern gospel music.  He especially loved visits with his coffee group friends.  He had a way of bringing laughter to others and was always there for his family and friends.

John is preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Collins, Jr., infant twin sons (12/10/1970), and first wife, Glenda.  He survived by his wife, Judy Collins of Ruston; his mother, Lucille Collins of Shreveport; son, John Paul Collins of Ruston; brother, Paul R. Collins of Ruston; and niece, Colleen Collins of Downsville.  Step-children Garry Graham (Stacy), Judith Breslin (Chris), Adam Graham (Cindy), Stephen Graham (Catherine).  Step-grandchildren include: Austin, Jessica, Carlyle, Lily, Lane, Raymond, and Nathalia Graham, Derek Breslin, and Ashley & Garrett Wall.

The family would like to thank some special neighbors, Tracy Copeland, Dana Thrash, Keith Koonce and Cindy Averitt for their friendship, help, and support over the last few years.
