Jimmy Joseph (JJ) Gilley, 69 of Ruston, LA passed away on July 28, 2020 after a long battle with numerous health issues.

A private family service will be held at Bear Creek CMC. Joey Anderson will be officiating the small gathering. Extended family and friends are welcome for a celebratory open house to be held at the Gilley house on Thursday, August 6 from 4-6. Cremation has taken place.

Jimmy was born in New Orleans on December 28, 1950. He earned his GED from the U.S. Army where he enlisted in 1970.  In 1976 he was honorably discharged as Specialist 5 ^th Class.

Jimmy was married to Patricia Kay Caraway on May 31, 1970.  During their 50 year marriage they welcomed two sons, Shane and Brian; two granddaughters, Hayli Rae and Massey Cypress; and were fur parents to numerous dogs including, Brianna, Little Bit, Lucy, Ginger as well as many others.

Jimmy worked as a driller for Sawyer Drilling Company of Haughton, LA until the oil field fell out in the 80's.  He then became employed by ConAgra as a truck driver and continued to climb the ranks until reaching Waster Water Manager, retiring in 2007 from Pilgrim Pride. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, his dogs, telling stories of days gone by and his family. He was proud to have served his country and never missed an opportunity to share about his experiences.

Jimmy is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Patricia; son Shane; son Brian and wife Jamie; grandchildren, Haley Rae and Massey Cypress; sisters Karen, Charlotte and husband Ray, and Susan and husband Steve; half sister Debbie and husband Eddie; step brother Jerry numerous nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Service Trust 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076.
