Jerry Rogers of Dubach, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 2, 2020 at the age of 84. He will be remembered as a hard-working, fun and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 5, 2020 at the Hamilton Cemetery in Dubach, with the Rev. Jon Lord, Pastor Stephanie Green and Rev. Jerry Means officiating. Services will be under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.

Jerry was born in Dallas, TX on October 10, 1935 to parents Jack Rogers and Alma Maude Patillo Rogers. He was raised in Gibsland, LA and graduated from Gibsland High School in 1954.  Jerry was offered a baseball scholarship to Louisiana Tech University but turned it down to take a lineman position with LA Power & Light to be able to financially help his aging mother.  He retired after 41 years to work for himself as JR Repairs, expert electrician and tree remover, handling the biggest chainsaw Stihl made until he was 79 years old.  Jerry served as a National Guardsman in Homer, LA during the late 1950s.  He was an active member of the Volunteer Fire department of Dubach during the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s, often answering a midnight call, pulling on clothes that were always laid out and riding downtown to pull the fire alarm that roused the volunteer firefighters.  He was a proponent of what is now the Lincoln Parish Fire Department and served as commissioner for may years. Although he did not get to play college baseball, he remained a fierce competitor participating in organized church and community slow-pitch, basketball and volleyball until his grandchildren started arriving. Jerry was a Freemason and lifetime member of the Grand Lodge of The State of Louisiana.  In his spare time, he ran a portable sawmill with his brother-in-law James Gordon McCullin, fished and hunted quail, told jokes and pulled great pranks.  He was famous for the enormous Christmas tree he decorated in his front yard every year. Dubach United Methodist Church was Jerry's home church. During his 50+ years as a member, he served as church treasurer, usher, Sunday School Superintendent, choir member and general handyman to the church and community.  Everyone who knew Jerry Rogers had a story, but one said it best, "He took God's command to care for widows and the fatherless to heart."

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, twin sister, Jeanette Glick and brothers: Johnny, Winlock and William "Winki" Rogers, his brother-in-law, James Gordon McCullin. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Margaret Slaton Rogers; daughters, Lisa and husband Brad Sullivan of Monroe and Sandra and husband Kevin Maddry of Dubach; grandchildren: Brandy Maddry, Danny Maddry, Lucy Washam, Margaret "Molly" Trammell and Jeri "Betsy" Trammell as well as six great-grandchildren who had his heart.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Maddry, Brad Sullivan, Paul Washam, Lane Bryant, Pete Smith, Charles Fuller, Bill Waltz, Bob Jensen, Larry Ferguson, Gene Terrell, Neil Kirkland, Robert "Skeeter" Colvin, Darryl, McAdams, Byron White and the members of Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District 1.
