Obituary

Memorial services for Jerry Nugent, age 72 of Choudrant, LA will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 29, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Farmerville, LA with Rev. Kurt Auger officiating.  Services will be under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.

Jerry was born in Monroe, LA on September 28, 1949.  He grew up in Swartz, LA and graduated from Ouachita High School in 1968.  Jerry participated in sports especially football where he experienced cancer for the first time at the age of sixteen.  He went to ULM and married the love of his life, Gloria on November 13, 1969 and moved to Ruston, LA.   Jerry was saved at the age of thirteen in Swartz, LA and he trusted the Lord wholeheartedly for the rest of his life.  The Lord blessed him with many jobs; Safeway, Sherwin Williams, LA Tech, Williamette, Hughes Tool, WPS, and the final job to this day with Foust Group.  Todd Foust hired him as safety coordinator through Coating Services, now Alexander Concrete.  Jerry worked with a host of great men and women and he loved everyone he came in contact with.

God blessed us with two sons; Kevin and Keith.  Jerry coached baseball, played golf, fished and hunted with them since these were their favorite hobbies.  He especially enjoyed fishing with longtime friend James Sawyer and in tournaments with nephew, Shane Nugent.  Jerry loved to sing and had memories with great choirs at Emmanuel Baptist in Ruston, LA and was a member of the choir, Faithful Men at First Baptist Church in Farmerville, LA.  Another great love was time spent with dear friends; Donnie and Katie.  We played Rook every month and ate dinner together for years.  We played our last game a few weeks before Jerry's passing.  In the last few years, he supported and became dear friends with Covenant Life Fellowship.  Besides ministry, with Gary, Whit, Mike, Michael and Robert Lindsey, he enjoyed their fellowship and shared hunting with them at the Maroons.  They were such a blessing in his life.  Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; Jack and Margaret Nugent; brothers:  Rodger and Richard Nugent; sisters-in-law:  Sandra Nugent and Donna Maroon; brother-in-law, Bill Taylor; nephew, Jakob Porter and niece, Jessica Nugent.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of fifty-two years, Gloria; sons:  Kevin (Sheila) and Keith Nugent; granddaughters he loved so much: Maddie, Kadence and Kolbie; brothers:  Terry (twin) and Ronald Nugent; sister, Elaine Taylor; brothers-in-law: Loyce Maroon and Joe Cascio (Sandy); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins he grew up with.  Friends too numerous to count.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are the deacons at First Baptist Church of Farmerville, LA and the deacons of Emmanuel Baptist of Ruston, LA.  Thanks to our Green Clinic Physicians and nurses.  Special thanks to Premier Hospice for their great care and support.
