Graveside services for James Richard Holtzclaw, 71, of Choudrant, LA will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Douglas Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Jones officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

James was born December 14, 1948 in the Douglas community and passed away on August 31, 2020 in Ruston, LA.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Eunice Lee (Shorty) Holtzclaw and Bobbie Jean Holstead Holtzclaw, and his stepmother, Sybil D. Holtzclaw.

James is survived by his devoted brother and best friend, Michael Lee (Mike) Holtzclaw;  step-mother, Rhoda Holtzclaw; aunts, Beth Holstead Brewster and Peggy Holstead Ellerman; step-brothers, Brian C. Dugdale, Timothy J. Martin, Rickey W. Martin, George S. Hemphill; and step-sister, Angela Daniel.  Also remembering him with love are many cousins and community friends.

James retired from Louisiana Tech University after 30 years of service in the Building and Grounds department.  He loved to listen to country music, watch western TV shows, and shop for antiques and collectables.  Most of all, James loved to greet his Douglas Church friends with a handshake and a smile every Sunday.  He never met a stranger.  His love and concern for all that he knew will be truly missed.

Donations in remembrance of James may be given to Douglas Church Building Fund, Shriners Hospital for Children,  Alzheimer's Association, or to the American Cancer Society.
