James Warren Davis, III

Graveside services for James Warren Davis, III "Jimmy" will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, LA. Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.

James Davis, known as Jimmy to his family, was born at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma.  He lived at McGuire AFB, New Jersey; in Alexandria, Louisiana; and then in Houma, Louisiana during the year his father was stationed in Vietnam.  After an 18-month stay on Travis AFB, California, he and his family moved to Ruston, Louisiana. Joined by baby brother Paul, his partner in mischief, he settled in the Humble/Kingwood area of Texas, where he and his friends ran, rode their bikes to school, were boy scouts, laughed, and played.

Jimmy graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in architecture, winning an award for his final project.

After working in Macon, Ga. for a few years, he came back to Texas and taught in a Technical School.  He was then offered a job designing stone cladding for a company which had a contract to work on a US embassy in Panama.  Obviously, his talents were an asset, since he went on to design and supervise the installation of stone exteriors for embassies all over the world.  He loved the travel this job involved!  Colonel Joseph B. Schweitzer, president of AICI (international construction company), said of James: "Designing and building a US Embassy on foreign soil is an incredibly difficult and complicated project."  "I have 35+ years of construction and engineering experience and would easily rank James Davis in my top 5% of professionals I have worked with in my lifetime.  He is a phenomenal architect, designer, problem solver, and leader.  His integrity is above reproach. I truly enjoy working with him as a member of my team.  He works well in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment as I have 23 different nationalities in my company.  The best part of him, though, is the fact that he is a really good human being.  He is kind, considerate, and thoughtful of others.  He has earned and enjoyed the trust of the countless number of teammates he has worked with over the years."

At the time of his passing, he was restoring a historic home and building several other structures on a ranch west of San Antonio, and thoroughly enjoying it.  He designed and oversaw the building of each project as carefully as though it were his own.  He enjoyed both respect from and camaraderie with his most recent co-workers.

James freely shared his time and talents with neighbors, gave generously to people who were needy, and mentored others who needed jobs. He believed in giving second (or more) chances to people who made mistakes.

James was funny, rebellious, drove too fast, was flawed as the rest of us, intelligent, talented, demanding, affectionate, and loyal.  He loved his family.  He loved his dogs.  He loved unconditionally!

He is survived by his parents Jim and Peggy Davis, his brother Paul, his sister-in-law Una, his nieces and nephews, Abi, Noelle, Nate, Ben, Aunt Marion and Uncles Tom and Don, cousins Allison and Ashley, and his many friends.

In honor of James, the family wishes memorials to be made in the form of donations to the Salvation Army or to Doctors Without Borders.
