RUSTON

Obituary

Steven Gregory "Greg" McCarter went home to be with Jesus on Monday, August 9, 2021.  Greg was born in San Antonio, TX to parents, Lester McCarter and Dorothy Ray McCarter Albritton on December 24, 1955.

He graduated from Ruston High School in 1974 and then attended LA Tech.  Greg spent his adult life in Ruston, LA, where he enjoyed watching LA Tech athletics.

Greg had many accomplishments and loved volunteerism.  He was active in many Ruston business organizations and had tremendous love for his community.  Greg worked in the Ruston area as an insurance agent for over 40 years. He diligently worked to meet each insurance group's and individual's needs, treating everyone with honesty and integrity.

The things most important to Greg were God, family and his church.  He was an adult Sunday School teacher at Temple Baptist Church for 13 years.

Greg enjoyed hunting and fishing, particularly with his good friend, Steve Miller.  Each outing was always an adventure.

One of his joys was coaching his daughters in sports, particularly softball.  His main goal was to make a positive impact on his young players' lives.

Greg's greatest treasure was his family.  He loved his wife, children, and his grandchildren.  The last weeks of his life were the most difficult because he was unable to spend time with his grandchildren, only seeing them outside on the back porch.

Greg was preceded in death by his father, Lester McCarter; mother, Dorothy Ray Albritton; stepfather, Irvin Baker Albritton; and granddaughter, Rebecca Marie.

Left to cherish his memory are his high school sweetheart and wife of 45 years, Suzanne; daughters, Heather Meek (Matthew) and Callie McCarter; three grandchildren, Alyssa, Amelia, and Carson;

sister, Susan Kennedy (Buddy); brother, Don McCarter (Melea) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, LA, August 14, 2021 from 12:00-2:00 P.M. with the service to follow at 2:00 P.M.

All attendees are asked to wear a mask during visitation and the funeral service.

Pallbearers will be Don McCarter, Steve Miller, Larry Causey, Scott Terry, Byron Williams, and Matthew Meek.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Carroll, Danny Carroll, John Frasier, and the men of Adult 10 Sunday School Class.

There will be a private graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the members of Temple Baptist Church and the community of Ruston for their continued prayers and support. Thank you to Uptown Downtown for their continuous outpouring of love and support. Special thanks to the Adult 10 Sunday School class for their unending prayers, food, and cards of support, in addition to stepping up and taking care of tasks while Greg was ill.

The family requests that memorials be made to Temple Baptist Church in support of a program for men who need counseling or to the charity of your choice.
