Funeral services for Geneva Walker Odom, age 89, of Simsboro, LA, will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 10:00 AM with Bro. Jason Cole officiating. Private burial will be held in Simsboro City Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.
Geneva Walker Odom was born in Calhoun, LA, on July 12, 1931 to parents John Martin Walker and Cumie Sullivan Walker. She passed away on January 8, 2021 in Ruston, LA. Geneva was a gentle, humble servant of the Lord. She was a member of Simsboro Baptist Church since 1962. Her favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." Geneva was employed at the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, LA at Joy Cottage for 14 years. As a cottage parent, she had the opportunity and privilege to guide, direct and share the love of Christ with the children. She looked forward to yearly Walker reunions and the Odom Christmas parties. Her joyful laugh was well recognized and will be remembered by all who loved her.
Geneva is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, James Curtis Odom; parents, John Martin Walker and Cumie Sullivan Walker; daughter, Debra Lynn Odom Collins; son-in-law, James Robert Ferguson; sisters, Lorine Skipper, Vera Jones, Ethel Britt, Ilena Clark and Irene Branch; brothers, Byrne Walker and Homer Walker.
Geneva is survived by her brother, J.M. Walker and wife Mae; sons, Jimmy Wayne Odom and wife Linda, and Bruce Alvin Odom and wife Letha; daughter; Brenda Gail Odom Ferguson; granddaughters, Amy Marie Odom Szpara and husband Ray Szpara, and Kimberly Lynn Odom Campos and husband Marco Campos; grandsons, Jason Ferguson and wife Kammi, Kurt Odom and wife Kristin, and Kyle Odom and wife Erika; eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Geneva's family would like to thank Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she was cared for the last 19 months of her life. They also extend a special thank you to Kim Roberson and the rest of Premier Hospice employees, who showed such compassion and care during her final days.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.
