Funeral services for Mr. Gene S. Brazzel, 84 of Ruston are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, September 18, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church in Ruston with interment to follow in Corinth Cemetery in Hico. Visitation will be Thursday September 17, 2020 from 5 PM until 7 PM at Calvary Baptist Church in Ruston. Mr. Brazzel died Wednesday September 16, 2020 in Ruston.

Gene was welcomed by his Lord, Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 16, 2020. Gene was born on September 10, 1936 in Corinth, Louisiana and departed this life on September 16, 2020 at his home in Vienna, Louisiana, surrounded by loved ones. He accepted Jesus as his savior at the young age of twelve and has been serving his Lord all his life. He served as a Deacon for many years.

Gene graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in 1960 and received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Medical Technology. He began his career in Monroe at St. Francis Hospital, but soon moved to Ruston. Gene worked as the Chief Lab Technician - Medical Technology at Lincoln General Hospital and retired after 32 years. He made several trips to learn new computer systems for the Lab. The trip we loved to hear about
was the one to New York City. He told us about the homeless people on the streets, all the trash everywhere, and all the people he saw. He brought us home giant round suckers and long necklaces from China Town. He was definitely a "Country Boy come to town" and was always glad to be back home.

Gene loved his family, his friends, and his "beautiful animals". Many afternoons you could find him sitting on his front porch, which was at the top of a hill that overlooked a serene setting of green pastures, two ponds and cattle scattered all about. He always had many animals. including horses, cows, bulls, pigs, chickens, cat, dogs, and Did we say Chickens? When ask, "What is that SMELL" he would say "It sells like MONEY to me!"

On several occasions we would come home from school to find a Brahma bull calf on the floor of the beauty shop of our home. If his animals were sick, they always received the royal treatment. (Just like we did!) He definitely loved his farm and had gardens when he was able to tend to them. He loved riding horses and taking the kids on hay rides and trail rides. He would have cookouts and Super Bowl parties for all his family and friends. He always encouraged his children and grandchildren to do their best. Gene was such a kind, gentle, and loving brother, husband, father, papaw, and friend.

His grand kids have fond memories of riding the tractor with their papaw or riding in the back of his pick-up truck. Gene had all the kids picking up rocks in the pasture, cleaning bricks for the new house, putting out hay seed for a garden, or hauling hay. Gene took the kids to the cow sale barn, showed them how to gather the eggs, bought them "Brown Bag specials" from Sonic. He loved him some Sonic. He taught them to ride horses, scooters, and golf carts. He would stay with us if we had a bad dream and pray for us.

He took family vacations to Arkansas, Tennessee, & Texas. Most of the time it was to attend a large cow sale. He was incredibly generous. He was always willing to give no matter what. Many of us didn't deserve it but he gave anyway,without hesitation. He was kind-hearted. If someone he loved was suffering, he was suffering with them. It broke his heart to see his loved ones in pain. We will never forget all of the love he shared. Gene also went on trips to the mountains with his dear friend Travis, and rode horses on the trails of Oklahoma. He thoroughly loved his friend and their adventures.

Gene was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Nolan and Nancy Smith Brazzel; father-in-law and mother-inlaw, Lelon and Cora Cox; his brother, Vernard Brazzel; his brother, Donald Brazzel and wife, Eva Nell; his sister, Vyonnell Vining and husband, Willie Earl; his sister, Murlene Stewart Benedict and husbands, Lane Stewart and Marshall Benedict; his sister, Janice Finley and husband, Sonny; his son-in-law,
John Robeaux; his brother-in-law, Mack Estes; and his great granddaughter, Ava Marie Causey.

Gene is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his son, Keith Brazzel and wife Teresa; his son, Eric Brazzel (The Baby) and wife Lynne; his daughter, Lisa Brazzel; and his daughter, LaDonna Robeaux; his sister, Hilda Estes; his brother-in-law, Gwen and wife, Ann; his brother-in-law, Delroy and wife, Diane; twelve grand children; twenty Great
grand children with a couple more on the way; as well as, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, family, and many friends.

Pallbearers include: Travis Guice, Brandon Brazzel, Christopher Causey, Adam Brazzel, Logan Brazzel, Reagan Brazzel, Parker Brazzel, and Remington Brazzel.

The family would like to thank Premier HOSPICE and his nurse Kim Roberson for all the care and support, as well as Dr. George Smith, Dr. Tommy Smith, and Dr. Metoyer for their care over the years.

We thank all of you for the prayers, texts, calls, cards, food, etc. We really appreciate all your acts of kindness. We would like to send a special thank you to Travis Guice, great friend and care taker, who was always near to help in any way.
