Obituary

Fred L. McAlister, 89, of Choudrant, LA. went to his eternal home on January 13, 2022. He was born in Parkdale, AR. on January 9,1933.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred I. McAlister and Velma; wife of 50 years, Gladys Jean McAlister; grandson Ryan Thomas Hurst; brothers: Donald, George and James McAlister; sisters: Margie Brown, "Billie" Novak, Marilyn Jo Spurlock and Emily Goetz.

He is survived by his three daughters, Robin McAlister Mangione and husband, Michael, of Albany, OR, Elizabeth McAlister Monk and husband, Dwayne L., of Choudrant, LA and Ashley McAlister Fleeger and husband, Joe, of Benton, AR; five siblings; Mary Huffty, Glenda Greer, William McAlister, Donnie King and Brenda Isgar; five grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Monk, Hannah Leigh Monk, Cody McAlister Hurst and wife MaKayla, Evan James Hurst and Dominic Mangione and two great grandchildren, Eli James Hurst and Asher Ryan Hurst. And special love from his in-home caregiver Adra Young.  Also survived by Lillette McAlister and many nieces and nephews.

Although the majority of his life and career were in Arkansas, he and Gladys Jean built their retirement home on family land in Jones, LA where they spent the rest of their marriage until her death.  He retired from a long and satisfying career at Entergy in 1991.  He also served in the United States Air Force.  He was a Southern Baptist and member of Wilmot Baptist Church but occasionally attended New Hope Baptist Church his last year where the church reached out and loved on him and took him in as one of their own.

Serving as pallbearers will be Evan Hurst, Cody Hurst, Joe Fleeger, Michael Mangione, Tracy Mayo and Dwayne Monk.

Visitation for Fred L. McAlister will be Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 5-7 PM in the Sanctuary at New Hope Baptist Church in Choudrant. The funeral service will be Monday, January 17, 2022 at 10 AM at New Hope Baptist Church. Graveside service will be at Dry Bayou Cemetery at 2 PM in Wilmot, AR.
