Eugene
Kennimer
Mar 4, 1934 — Mar 22, 2019
Ruston
Funeral services for Mr. Eugene Kennimer are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Owens Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ron Robison officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ruston under direction of Owen Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.
Eugene was born on March 4, 1934 and went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2019 at the age of 85. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the cargo ships USS Jason, USS Titania and the USS Ajax. After his discharge he went to work as a welder in Alabama and Utah and later went to work at Louisiana Tech University where he retired in 1986.
Eugene and wife Naomi were members of the Good Sam's Club and they loved to travel in their motor home and made friends with many. His smile was contagious and he was the master of wit and silly humor, had a saying for everything and collected all things random, which resulted in a house full of trinkets and treasures. He loved to sit on his front porch, coffee in the morning with Nonie and peanuts in the afternoon, just watching the cars and the world go by. His love for his grandkids and great grandkids was beyond measure and if there was an event that one of them was involved in, Papaw would be there. To know him was to love him. Eugene is preceded in death by his mother and father; four brothers and five sisters; also his first wife, Helen Kennimer, daughter Kim Madden, son-in-law, Homer Madden and granddaughter Rebecca Madden.
Those left to cherish his memory includes his wife Naomi, son Kevin Kennimer (Lisa), daughter Karen Skains (Mike), step-son Ron Robison (Andrea), step-daughter Priscilla Robison (DJ); 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Shirley Whitehead, Roland Kennimer, Claudine Greer and Donnie Kennimer.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM, Tuesday until service time at Owens Memorial Chapel. The family would like to thank the employees at Alpine, Ruston Regional, Dr. Blackwelder and especially Premiere Hospice. A special thanks to his hospice nurse, Kim Roberson for her comfort and compassion during our difficult time.
