"Big Dave" Colvin was born January 24, 1953 to Martha and Bush Colvin.  He passed from this Earth on February 15, 2020 at his home in Dubach surrounded by friends and family after a decades long battle with diabetes and heart disease.  Growing up, his best friends were his older brother Mike and his Uncle Jiggs Colvin and they spent a lot of time at the old homestead in Unionville.  His professional life included several ventures.  The oil industry, in his younger years, took him and his brother all over the world.  Globetrotting did not suit him and he returned home to Lincoln Parish for good in the 80's.  He operated Interstate Wrecker in Ruston for many years until his retirement.  After his retirement, he became a volunteer firefighter at the station in Vienna, a few miles south of his home.

Dave never married or had kids of his own, but deeply enjoyed the company of his nieces, friend's children and grandchildren.  One such child, Ellie (granddaughter of Ann and Joe Smith) was a special case.  Despite her best efforts, she never could quite get him to learn math, as was evident by his grades on the weekly homework she assigned him.  He loved racing and tinkering with vehicles and could often be seen mowing grass, a chore he considered inevitable and never ending.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Bush Colvin; brother Mike Colvin; sister-in-law Marianne Colvin; Uncle Jiggs Colvin; Aunt Julia Knotts; cousins: Julia King, Edward Glen Wright and Kiel Pickett and his aunt who was more like a sister, Teresa Grigsby.

Left to cherish his memory are nieces: Stephanie Colvin (Chris) and Robin Marshall (Wesley); great nieces: Lily and Ruby Marshall; Aunt Jodell Wright, and cousins: Stanley King (Solange), Madeline Cooper, and Gale Pickett (Greg).  Although he was preceded in death by the majority of his immediate family, Dave made himself his own family out of good friends he met along the way.  Marvin McCarty, Ann and Joe Smith, Carla and Michael Hutson, Rebekah Smith and of course Ellie Harlan were a few of such friends.  Dave lived a reasonably not bad life, and if you knew him you know it didn't get any better than that.

A visitation to celebrate the life of "Big Dave" will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, February 24, 2020 at Owens Memorial Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a diabetes or heart related charity of your choice.
