Chester Dwight Porter

December 29, 1932 – August 13, 2022

Chester Dwight Porter, better known as Dwight, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Saturday August 13, 2022.

Dwight was born to Chester and Lela Porter (nee Pace) on December 29, 1932.  His parents owned Porter's Post & Pole Co. in Ponca City, Oklahoma.  He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1950.

Dwight married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Virginia Adaline Carson on May 29, 1952. Several said it would not last, but he the last laugh.  Dwight and Adaline celebrated 70 years of marriage this past May.

In 1953, Dwight was drafted into the Korean War where he served as a radar operator in South Korea.  In 1961 he received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University.  He worked at Cities Service in Ponca City as an engineer and supervisor of the drafting department.  In 1964 he was elected Commander of the Ponca City Auxiliary Police until he moved to Baton Rouge in 1968.  After several moves, the family ultimately settled in Louisiana.  He retired from Union Texas Petroleum as General Manager Petrochemicals in 1992 after holding 7 different positions at UTP.  Dwight received two patents in his lifetime for fittings for an industrial furnace.  He was as smart as a whip and was always learning.

He is survived by his soulmate Adaline; sister Gayle Glazener; brother Tom (Ronda); sister Nancy; his three children, Janice Jones, Julie Hiney (Richard), and Jerry (fiancé Tina); grandchildren Nikki DeOliviera (Bryan), Courtney Carlyle (Andrew), Christina Hiney, and Carleigh Hiney; step-grandchildren Steve Jones, Jeff Jones, and Lori Jones; great-grandchildren Adalinne, Porter, Evangeline, and Koda; step-great-grandchildren Maleena and Janell; honorary granddaughter Callie; honorary great-granddaughter Adah; and multiple family members and friends.  He is preceded in death by his mother Lela; father Chester; in-laws Peggy and Eivy; brother Kenneth; brothers-in-law Jack Rein, Wayne Glazener and Forrest Carson; son-in-law George Lewis Jones; and his loyal Golden Retriever Amber.

There was never a doubt how much Dwight loved his family.  The love between him and Adaline was something that books and movies are made of.  They taught those around them what love between spouses should be.  Never should that be forgotten.
