Funeral services for Byron Lavon "Barlow" Futrell, age 84 of Dubach, LA. will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 2, 20024 at Life Church in Ruston, LA with Brother Chris Witt and Pastor Dallas Witt officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery in Choudrant, LA under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Byron was born on December 5, 1939 to Byron Clayton Futrell and Dorothy Nunn Futrell in Ruston, LA. He went home to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 30th surrounded by his family. Byron graduate from Downsville High School in 1958 and then graduated from the Shreveport Trade school in 1959 with a barber certificate. He barbered for several years. He joined the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in March 1964. Byron went into the timber business and worked for Willamette for many years surveying timber. When his employment with Willamette came to an end, he became the owner of Futrell Trucking Inc. and worked for many years until retirement.
Byron enjoyed working in his yard, playing cards, fishing, sitting on the patio visiting with friends, and neighbors, taking naps in his recliner, listing to gospel music, singing and good home cooked meals. He was a true example of a Godly man. His kindness touched the lives of many. He was hardworking, a great provider, loved his family and most importantly, he loved Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Anna H. Futrell; one son, Scotty Futrell (Angela); one daughter, Kayla Johnston (Quince); one sister, Mary Antley (Tommy); four grandchildren: Clay Johnston and fiancé Kelsey Chatham, Krysten Johnston, Joshua Futrell (Misty), and Jeremy Futrell; four great-grandchildren: Sterling, August, Maddox, and Colsen.
Serving as pallbearers will be Clay Johnston, Quince Johnston, Joshua Futrell, Jeremy Futrell, Todd Bullock, and Ray Roberson. Honorary pallbearers are Kent Greer, Max Hammons, Max Barrett, Kevin Duke, Wayne Antley, Tony Antley, and Felton Patterson.
Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until service time Friday at the church.
