Graveside services for Mr. Bobby G. Willett, age 89 of Ruston, are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, December 27, 2021, at Kilpatrick Memorial Gardens in Ruston with Rev. Reggie Bridges officiating. Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Bobby G. Willett was born on August 8, 1932, near Athens, LA and passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, in Ruston. He graduated from Ruston High School in 1950, was drafted into the US Army and served during the Korean War. He graduated Military Police Academy and served in the Panama Canal Zone as a Military policeman.
Bobby married at Jonesboro, LA on November 25, 1955, to Margie Vernell Shackelford and they have lived in Ruston since then. Bobby worked for the Ruston United States Post Office as a postal clerk. He retired after 25 years of service. Since then, Bobby has owned several businesses including, Shipley's Donuts, Kountry Kooker Restaurant, and Hilly Junction Antiques and Junk. He loved digging for old bottles, antique auctions, Ancestry history of families and working in his flower beds and vegetable garden. He enjoyed teaching his kids how to fish, hunt and also do carpentry work, including building duplexes and two of his own houses in Ruston. He loved watching and feeding his birds.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents: Will and Eva Willett; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Griss and Mildred Shackelford; four brothers: Audie Willett, Drake Willett, Curtis Willett and Huey Willett; his sister, Erma Elam; and twin grandbabies: Jacob Willett and Joshua Willett.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Vernell Willett; their children: Debbie Willett Allen, (Dennis) of Ruston, LA; Twins: Donald Willett of Farmerville, LA and Ronald Willett (Brenda) of North Little Rock, AR; and Gary Willett (Tammy) Ruston, LA. He is also survived by a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Allen, Tyler Allen, Kirk Elam, Chris Elam, Dennis Allen and Carl Hammock. Honorary pallbearers will be the McDonald's Morning Coffee Drinkers. To leave an online memorial message for the family, please visit www.owensmemorialfuneralhome.com
