Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Allen Colvin, age 90 of Dubach, LA will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 28, 2023 at New Prospect Baptist Church in Dubach with Rev. Terry Gainey and Rev. Eddie Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Colvin Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.
Bobby was born April 3, 1933 in Dubach to Ruth Fuller and Velma Lee "Peck" Colvin and passed away September 23, 2023 in Ruston. He joined the Marines in Shreveport, LA and was sworn in July 7, 1953 in New Orleans, LA. Bobby attended boot camp for two months in San Diego, CA before leaving for cold weather training in California and in the Nevada Mountains at Camp Geiger. Later, in 1953, he went to Camp McNair halfway up Mt. Fuji for eighteen months where he lived in tents with the 12th Marines, 3rd Marine division. After this, Bobby went to Iwo Jima on Mt. Suribachi and to Okinawa. He returned to the United States in 1955 and went to New Orleans where he was stationed at the Belle Chase Air Station and the ammo depo for twelve months. Bobby was transferred to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina where he was discharged after fifteen months. He returned to New Orleans and worked offshore in the Gulf of Mexico for Chevron for 29 and a half years. Bobby married his wonderful wife Linda, and the two returned to Dubach. He was proceeded in death by his parents; two brothers Henry Lee Colvin and Leon Colvin; and one sister Pricilla St. John.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 52 years Linda Colvin of Dubach, LA; daughter Debra and husband Timothy Sapp of Natchitoches, LA; granddaughter Devora Sapp of Natchitoches, LA; brother Jimmy Rex Colvin and wife Dee of Dubach, LA and a host of other family and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Fuller, Thomas Curtis, Mickey Colvin, Mike Colvin, Buddy Burnham, Jimmy Rex Colvin, Tim Colvin and Tim Sapp. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Crawford, Davey Crawford and Rocky Crawford.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 AM, Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the church.
