Funeral services for Billy Gene Joiner, age 91, of Arcadia, LA will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston, LA with Rev. Bill Reid officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcadia City Cemetery in Arcadia, LA under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Bill was born, December 1, 1932 to Morgan and Addie Joiner the youngest of 5 children. He grew up and attended school in Gibsland, LA. Bill married in 1955 and went on to attend Louisiana Tech University.

Bill was a quiet Christian man who lived his faith. He was generous to those in need not only buying food or gasoline for others but also providing transportation. Bill donated to the Food Bank as well as overseas missions. He loved his family and never missed a school function, sporting event or birthday party.  Bill lived Micah 6:8 "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God" and 1 Thessalonians 4:11 "…make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: mind your own business and work with your hands…"

Bill attended La Tech University and numerous professional schools relating to his long career in the Petroleum Industry, specifically Oil Production and Wellhead Design. He traveled and worked overseas in several different countries as well as domestically in the Gulf of Mexico, US West Coast and North Slope of Alaska.  Bill also at one time owned a trucking company and later a lawn service company. In later life, he attended Trade School in Upholstery and opened a business. Bill loved learning and was an avid reader, enjoying westerns, adventure, poetry and encyclopedias. His love of learning was passed on to his daughter and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings: Blanche Burkhalter of Houston, TX; Marie Merritt of Gibsland, LA; W. Travis Joiner of Alexandria, LA and L.D. Joiner of Shreveport, LA.

Bill is survived by his wife of 69 years, Shirley Joiner; daughter Dr. S. Joiner Foster and her husband Josh of Ruston, LA; grandson, Michael Foster of Ruston, LA; granddaughter, Sara Foster of Ruston, LA, brother in law Joe Harper and wife Pat of Farmerville, LA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Foster, Michael Foster, Cary Tolar, Jay Strickler, and James Benson.
