Billie Eaves Brewer, age 98, of Ruston, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026. She was born on December 27, 1927 to Homer and Honor Eaves of Simsboro. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Danny Baskin and Pastor Mark Breland. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Billie married Alvie L. Brewer on July 5, 1951. They had two children: Ginger Earline Brewer Hebron and Douglas Alvie Brewer. Their marriage of 66 years was filled with adventures traveling and living in Paris, France; Bad Kreuznach, Germany; Istanbul and Izmir, Turkey and various places in the United States where her husband was stationed. After her husband retired from the army, they decided to make Ruston their home. She loved shopping for her family and spent hours preparing holiday meals. Family and friends enjoyed the many homemade desserts with her lemon bars being a favorite. She would always stay in touch with family members by remembering special occasions through cards, gifts, and phone calls. Billie will be missed dearly.
Billie was a 1945 graduate of Simsboro High School and a 1949 graduate from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (Louisiana Tech) with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She taught at Delhi Elementary, Leesville Elementary, U.S. Army Dependent School in Bad Kreuznach, Germany; I.A. Lewis School, and Cypress Springs Elementary where she retired in 1991. Billie was an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church (Simsboro Grace Community Church); The Gideons Auxiliary, and Louisiana Retired Teachers. She was also active in the Simsboro Alumni Association and volunteered at Lincoln General Hospital administration office after her retirement.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, Honor and Homer Eaves, and her husband Alvie L. Brewer, retired U.S. Army Major and retired Public Works Director for the City of Ruston.
Billie is survived by her daughter, Ginger Hebron and husband Roy of Ball, Louisiana; and son, Doug Brewer and wife Angie of Ruston, Louisiana. Surviving grandchildren are Brandon Hebron and wife, Heather of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Jeremy Hebron and wife, Stephanie of Natchez, Louisiana; Matthew Brewer and wife, Prema of Atlanta, Georgia; and Michael Brewer of Shreveport, Louisiana. Surviving great-grandson is Austin Hebron and great-granddaughters are Elizabeth Hebron and Sydney Hebron.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Hebron, Jeremy Hebron, Lonnie Salard, Matthew Brewer, Michael Brewer, and Lorman Smith.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to her wonderful caregivers, Rachelle Lathan, Linda Washington, Shirley Donald, Sherrie Dunn, and Bobby Goodjoint for their compassionate care and devotion to Billie throughout these last few years. Special thanks to pianist Rita Hoenke for providing the lovely musical accompaniment for soloist Alisia Thomason during the service.
