Memorial services for Mrs. Beverly Colvin Prather, age 86 of Dubach, LA will be held at 2:00 PM with Bro. Barry Joiner, at the First Baptist Church, Dubach, LA on Saturday, January 5, 2019 . Visitation will be held at 1:00 prior to the service.
On December 11, 2018, Mrs. Beverly Colvin Prather went home to be with The Lord. She was born July 24, 1932, in Dubach, LA. Beverly is the daughter of Jasper and Lucille Colvin. She is proceeded in death by her husband of 63 yrs., O.D. Prather, her parents and two brothers, Don and Wayne Colvin.
Beverly was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University at Ruston, with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She took up residency at Fort Hood Base in Killeen, TX while O.D. served as a Chaplain in the Army during the Korean War. Beverly served beside her husband while he served as Minister of Music include, First Baptist Church Dubach, LA, Pisgah Baptist Church Bernice, LA, and First Baptist Church Morgan City, LA serving there for nearly 30 years. During their ministry in Morgan City, she served continuously in several ministries, singing in the choir, WMU, Director and Sunday School teacher for 4th graders, and Director of Vacation Bible School. She volunteered in many areas of her children's activities.
During their life in Morgan City, she taught first and second grade for nearly 20 years for St. Mary Parish Independent School District. Retirement brought them to Ruston, LA for 8 years and Dubach, LA for 22 years. While living in Ruston and Dubach, Beverly and O.D. were loving care givers for her mother who lived with them for almost 20 years until her passing. After O.D.'s passing on November 30, 2013, Beverly came to live with her daughter and son-in-love, Lana and Clifton, for 5 years in their home in Conroe, TX where she passed away. She was a member of The Woodlands First Baptist Church.
Beverly has so much compassion for people, she loved her family and loved serving The Lord. She has touched many lives with her sweet spirit, serving people and living the Love of Jesus.
Beverly is survived by her son, Keith Prather and wife, Susan; daughter, Lana Prather Baker and husband, Clifton; grandson, Jesse Prather and wife, Kristin; granddaughters, Molly Prather, Meredith Baker Bingham and husband, Brandon, and Julia Baker Shuman and husband, Jacob; great-granddaughter, Serena Prather, and great-grandson, Holden Bingham and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that planned memorials be made to the Music or Missions offerings at First Baptist Church of Dubach.
