Graveside services for Barbara Leona Hancock, age 90 of Ruston, will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston with Mr. George Murphy officiating under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Miss Hancock was born December 7, 1927 to Clifford Cleveland Hancock and Luna Mayes Hancock.  She died Tuesday, August 28, 2018 after a brief illness.  Miss Hancock graduated from Calhoun High School in 1945, received a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1948, and accomplished a Master's degree in Education in 1959 from Peabody College, Vanderbilt University.

Miss Hancock taught elementary education for 33 years in both Louisiana and Florida.  She truly loved education and teaching.  Miss Hancock returned to Louisiana in 1996 after retirement and has lived in Ruston since then.  In 2011, she moved to the Arbor and Terrace, where she made many good friends.  Her humor and her ability to voice her opinion will be remembered with love.  Her hobbies included reading and watching movies.  She also loved birds and flowers.

Miss Hancock was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.  She leaves to cherish her memory a niece, Cindy Murphy and husband George and a nephew, Sam Ledger, along with a host of friends.
