Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Faye Hancock, age 80 of Ruston, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 24, 2018 at Owens Memorial Chapel with Bro. Clint Coleman and Rev. Michael Brandon  officiating.  Burial will follow in the Simsboro City Cemetery in Simsboro, LA under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.
Alice Faye Miller Hancock of Ruston, LA went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday September 21, 2018.
Ms. Hancock was a long time resident of Ruston, but she was originally from Deming, NM. She was born in New Mexico on September 29, 1937 to Rev. and Mrs. E.V. Miller and was one of eleven children. Rev. Miller, in 1953 brought his family east looking for work as a commercial sign painter.  He became pastor of Bluff Springs Pentecostal church and remained there for several years.
Ms. Hancock met and married Johnny Hancock in late '50's and their first daughter, Alice Vanette was born in 1959.  She went on to give birth to 6 other children between 1960 and 1970.
Being an accomplished seamstress, doll maker, and crochet artist, she supported herself and her 7 children after her divorce in 1976. She brought up her children in the Pentecostal faith and strongly encouraged them to follow Jesus. Her attitude was, 'If you are going somewhere, it had better be church!"
She has gone to meet with her parents, numerous brothers and sisters, and her 2 children, Alice Vanette Hancock, who went to heaven July 5, 1988 and Freeman Wayne Hancock who passed over April 30 2018. She was the best mother we could have ever had and we will miss her more than words can say.
She was survived by two daughters and three sons:  Renee Deinert of Ruston, Bradley Hancock of Choudrant, Tony Hancock and wife Annette of Odessa, TX, Rosemary Young of Minden, and Marshall Hancock and wife Heather of Ruston.  She has 8 grandchildren: Tim and Cody Sumrall of Seattle, WA, Victoria and husband Justin Axton of Ruston, Emily Greer of Worcester MA, Tony Barnett and wife Jessica of Ruston, Kristopher Hancock and wife Heather of Oklahoma City, OK, Morgan and Madalyn Hancock of Weston.
There are 2 beautiful great-grandsons: Travis Barnett and Lincoln Axton. She was also, survived by nieces and nephews residing in Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, and Idaho. She left behind a sister by marriage, who she deeply loved, Mary Buckland Stiglets of Ruston. They were each other's link to the past and the 'good ole days'. Mary has always been a friend to Ms. Hancock as well as a sister.
There are not enough pages to tell of her wonderful qualities, not enough time to tell of the many people she touched with the love of God, and certainly not enough years to tell of the great love that her children had for her.
We would like to extend a very heart-felt thank you to the staff of Northern Louisiana Medical Center, Alpine Rehabilitation Center, to the many visitors, and for the calls and texts. We also want to thank the pastors who came to pray with Ms. Hancock and her family, Pastor Kendall Corkern of Ruston, Pastor Michael Brandon of Bernice, LA and Pastor Stan and Mary Pody of Ruston.  We want to say very special thank you to Deshonna Willis of Alpine Rehab Center and Sue Jones of Jonesboro for their help and loving actions toward our sweet mama over the past months.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Owens Memorial Chapel.
