William Earl Sears

Funeral services for William Earl Sears, Jr, age 87, of Ruston will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Rev. Jerry Hilbun will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mr. Sears was born March 27, 1925 to the late William Earl Sears, Sr. of Proctor, TX and the late Velma Ewing Kendrick Sears of Homer. He went home to be with his Lord May 2, 2012. Mr. Sears was 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Valley of Shreveport, a 50 year Member of Ruston Lodge #106 F.&A.M. and member of El-Karuba Shrine of Shreveport. He graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1952. Following graduation, he worked at TL James for 17 years, then as a Civil Engineer at Morton-Thykol and Sperry Rand Corp at the LA Ammunition Plant. He was the former president of D'Arbonne Lake Commission, a former member of the Ruston Jaycees, and a charter member of Colvin Hunting Club in Simsboro and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Sears served his country in the US Coast Guard during WWII aboard the USS Alger, the USS Potomac and the USS Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his late wife Melba Adkins Sears. Mr. Sears is survived by his wife, Merrie Calahan Sears, his daughter Jerri Gallagher and husband Jimmy of Ruston, his son Bill Sears and wife Teresa of Aiken, SC, his stepdaughter Donna Horton and husband Eddie Wayne of Bernice, his stepson Jerry Andrews of Ruston, his grandchildren Jim Gallagher of Ruston, Kelly Gallagher Thompson of Ruston, Benjamin Sears and wife Laura of Alexandria, VA, Joshua Sears of Clemson, SC, Amanda Sears of Aiken, SC , William Sears of Aiken, SC , Tanya Welch and husband Chris of Bossier City, Angie Dendy and husband Dax of Bernice, J.R. Horton and wife Stephanie of Bernice, Katy Hanson and husband Ryan of Bernice, and Kimberly, Jennifer, Melissa Andrews of MS. He also had 13 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be: J.R. Horton, Ryan Hanson, Jim Gallagher, Dax Dendy, Chris Welch and Roger Smitherman. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of Colvin Hunting Club. Visitation will be held Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston.
