Services for Jack McCormick Land, Sr., 86 of Ruston, will be held at 2PM Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Presbyterian Church of Ruston. Officiating will be the Rev. Edith Hill. Visitation will be at the church from 1PM until time of the service. Mr. Land was born in Sibley, LA on September 1, 1925 and died Sunday, March 25, 2012 in Ruston, following a brief illness. He married Barbara Courtney on January 25, 1947, celebrating 65 years of marriage. He was a graduate of Ruston High School and served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Following his discharge from the Army, Mr. Land owned and operated Jack's Drive-In Grocery store. He was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church of Ruston where he served as treasurer for more than 40 years. One of his many enjoyments was meeting with his morning coffee group at the Bank of Ruston. Mr. Land was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Kathleen Land; brothers, George B. Land and Joe Kendall Land, and sister, Louise Stockard. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Courtney Land; son, Jack M. Land, Jr. and wife, Marsha of Shreveport; Daughter, Annette L. Freeman and husband Roger of Ridgeland, MS; granddaughter, Chantry Land, Fayetteville, NC; Grandson, Courtney C. Freeman and wife, Rebecca and great-grandsons, Trenton and Dylan Freeman, of Royce City, TX; brother, James L. "Doc" Land and wife, Freddie of Choudrant, LA; Sister, Betty J. Martin and husband Ted of Cincinnati, OH. The Land family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Blackwelder, Denise Hadnot, and the staff and nurses of Princeton Place for thier care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Presbyterian Church of Ruston, 212 N. Bonner St.
