Funeral services for Mrs. Juanita Williams Colvin, age 82 of Simsboro, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 8, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Simsboro. Rev. Wilton Wall will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Simsboro City Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Mrs. Williams was born January 7, 1930 in Simsboro to Primus Williams and Myrtle Bryant Williams. She died March 6, 2012 in Ruston. She was a graduate of Simsboro High School as well as from the business college in Shreveport where she was a member of the Alpha Iota Business Sorority. Mrs. Colvin was the Postmaster of Simsboro for 26 years. She was also a member of the Association of Postmasters and served as vice president and PAC Chairman. As PAC Chairman she went to conferences in Washington, DC several times with our congressmen. Mrs. Colvin was also a member of First Baptist Church in Simsboro and was the church treasurer for several years. In addition, she served on the City Council for Simsboro, was a member of the Simsboro High School Alumni Association and served there as the secretary/treasurer and as president. Mrs. Colvin was a board member of the Louisiana Military Museum the Lincoln Parish Council on aging and was also involved with Lincoln Parish Triad. She was also a member of Mary S. Herring Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for 58 years.
Mrs. Colvin is survived by her children: William Colvin and wife Mary Amma of Bernice, David Colvin and wife Linda of Bossier City, Vickie and husband Pat Nolen of Littelton, Colorado and Mike Colvin and wife Janette of Simsboro; her grandchildren: Leslie and husband Zach Jenkins, Daniel Colvin, Amy and husband Conrsd Paul, Jennifer and husband Kendon Pesnell, Sheryl and husband Pekka Hautaniemi, Katie and husband Bryan Ferguson, Cassie and husband Edward Weaver, Cody Nolen and wife Jenny, Taylor and husband Tom Yionoulois, Laura Colvin and Russell Colvin; 17 great grandchildren; her brother: Sam Williams and wife Deezy; her sister Cora Pearl and husband David Hughes; her brother-in-law: Jack Green; her aunt: Mildred Norman; her treasured niece: Carol Ann Williams as well as many other nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Major Melvin Colvin and her sister: Gypsy Green.
Pallbearers will be: Russell Colvin, Kendon Pesnell, Bryan Ferguson, Daniel Colvin, Cody Nolen, Tommy Yionoulis, Henry Lawrence and Dan Wier. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Juanita may be made to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church of Simsboro.
